William Henry Ray, who was born at Whitehaven in 1885, was awarded his O.B.E. in respect of services as Chief Engineer Officer of the S.S. Malancha, which ship he joined in the summer of 1937, and remained employed aboard until the War’s end, when he was released from service; sold with brief research.
