Frank Francis Herbert Ford was born in Rochester, Kent on 4 June 1889. A Gardener by occupation, he enlisted into the Royal Marines at Chatham on 30 May 1907. Discharged to the Royal Naval Air Service in December 1913, he landed at Ostend in August 1914 and served as an Air Mechanic 1st Class at Dunkirk, October-December 1914. His 1914 Star was issued to R.A.F. Brooklands on 10 September 1919. Awarded the R.A.F. L.S. & G.C. in October 1925.
