A Bronze Star/Purple Heart group of four named to Sergeant Cornell L. Houston, 41st Engineering Battalion, 10th Mountain Division, attached to the Quick Reaction Force, who died of wounds sustained at the battle of Mogadishu, Somalia, 6 October 1993

Cornell Lemont Houston, Sr., came from Mobile, Alabama. Assigned to ‘C’ Company, 41st Engineering Battalion, at Fort Drum. He entered Somalia in August 1993 on his second tour as part of the Quick Reaction Force based at the University compound in Mogadishu. During the battle of Mogadishu, 3-4 October 1993, Houston was part of the Quick Reaction Force rescue convoy that went out to secure the downed Blackhawk helicopters and to rescue the Rangers who were pinned down. He was wounded by gunfire and shrapnel to the chest on 3 October and died of his wounds at the Landstuhl Army Regional Medical Centre in Germany on 6 October.
