James Burke was recruited at Dublin on 1 January 1839 and posted as Private 1045 to H.M. 13th Regiment. He landed at Calcutta on 28 September 1839. He was present at the Defence of Jellalabad and at Cabul. The musters show that he was wounded in hospital October-December 1841. Promoted to Corporal on 1 June 1842, and to Sergeant on 13 July 1843, he volunteered to the 80th Foot on 16 October 1844. He was present with the latter regiment in the Burmese campaign of 1852-53 and gained the medal for Pegu. Sold with full muster details.
