Athur George Jordan was born in Hackney, London on 16 October 1880. He entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in July 1896 and was advanced to Boy 1st Class in April 1897. Serving on H.M.S. Illustrious, May 1898-January 1901, he was promoted to Ordinary Seaman in October 1898 and Able Seaman in July 1900. Jordan was discharged by purchase in June 1905 and joined the R.F.R. Returning to the Royal Navy in August 1914, he was listed on the books of Pembroke II, Attentive II and Pembroke I during August 1914-July 1918. For his services he was awarded the French Croix de Guerre. Served aboard H.M.S. Vindictive in the Zeebrugge Raid, 23 April 1918, and is recorded as having participated in the ballot for a V.C. for that operation (London Gazette 23 July 1918). Served on H.M.S. Kilgarvin from July 1918 until his demobilization in March 1919. With copied service paper and gazette and roll extracts.
