Charles Smith served with 5th Bn. in the Great War and as C.S.M. with 2nd Bn. in Persia 1921. He was awarded the long service medal in 1923 and discharged in November 1925, after 21 years service. He is regularly mentioned in the regimental journal, ‘Tiger & Rose’, as participating in concerts and sport, particularly football, having played for Tottenham Hotspur.
