George IV (1820-1830), The Royal Society of Literature, 1823, a lead trial of the obverse, by W Bain, bust of King after Chantrey’s model, 69mm (BHM.1218). In velvet lined fitted case, very fine, believed to be the only one known

Exhibited at the Royal Academy, 1824, no.948. The Royal Society of Literature was founded on 17th June 1823. Its first patron was George IV, who assigned 1,000 guineas to ten associates, and awarded two 10 guinea medals annually.
