Alexander Davison’s Medal for The Nile 1798, bronze-gilt (Heny. Butland, Minotaur) inscribed in running script in the reverse field, fitted with rings and ornate bar suspension, gilding rubbed on the high points but generally fine £400-500
Henry Butland was born at Stoke Gabriel, Devon, circa 1764. He first appears on board the Cumberland as an Able Seaman in March 1793, and transferred to the Minotaur in March 1794. He remained on board this ship until at least March 1802, and survived until 1849 to claim his N.G.S. medal for the Nile.
