Distinguished Conduct Medal, G.V.R. (8524 L. Cpl. H. Anstead, 1/W. York. Regt.); 1914 Star, with clasp (8524 Pte., 2/W. York R.); British War and Victory Medals (8524 Pte., W. York. R.) polished, otherwise generally good very fine (4) £500-550

D.C.M. London Gazette 15 September 1915: ‘For great bravery and devotion in volunteering with several other men to proceed in broad daylight to an advanced post, which it was imperative to hold, well knowing they had to cross over open ground exposed to a heavy shell fire, and that their post was in the air and both flanks exposed. During the advance one man was killed and several wounded.’

Henry Anstead, who was born in Chelsea, London and enlisted at York, was accidentally killed, France and Flanders, on 18 August 1915.
