Military General Service 1793-1814, 2 clasps, Vittoria, St. Sebastian (Wm. Lewis, 9th. Foot.) edge bruising and contact marks, polished, nearly very fine £800-1000

William Lewis, was born in Frome, Somerset, and joined the 1st Battalion, 9th Foot in February 1813. He served with the 5th Company in the Peninsula at the battles of Vittoria and St. Sebastian, where the regiment saw much action at the storming and capture of the latter fortress suffering over 250 casualties, before proceeding with the Battalion to America in April 1814, where he is shown on the musters as being ‘sick in regimental hospital’ in August 1814, ‘sick at Montreal’ in September 1814, and on ‘garrison duty’ in October 1814.
