42nd Royal Highland Regiment Peninsula Campaign Medal 1819, silver (Serj. B. Mahon), eight Battle Honours on reverse, with original silver straight bar suspender, very fine £300-400

Bryan Mahon volunteered for service with the Royal Highlanders from the Irish Militia on 9 July 1805, and served initially in Captain Raitt’s Company. Promoted Corporal on 31 January 1810, he served with the Regiment in Portugal from the second quarter of 1812, and was advanced Sergeant in December 1812. He was discharged, ‘worn out’, in December 1825.

The 42nd Royal Highland Regiment Peninsula Campaign Medals were struck in Dublin in 1819 and were approved for wear by the Commander in Chief the Duke of York. Recipient’s of the medal had to purchase the medal themselves.
