Five: Lieutenant-Colonel J. L. Jordan, 6th Duke of Connaught’s Own Lancers and South Wales Borderers, who was Mentioned in Despatches for his distinguished services in Waziristan 1937 whilst Officer Commanding the Railhead Remount Depot, Bannu

M.I.D. London Gazette 16 August 1938:
‘For distinguished services rendered in the field in connection with the operation in Waziristan, during the period 16 September to 15 December 1937.’

Jack Leslie Jordan was born on 12 July 1903 and was educated at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Commissioned Second Lieutenant in the South Wales Borderers on 31 January 1924, he was promoted Lieutenant on 31 January 1926, and was employed with the Royal West African Frontier Force from 4 July 1928 to 24 February 1932, when he returned to the South Wales Borderers. Promoted Captain on 22 January 1934, he transferred to the 6th Duke of Connaught’s Own Lancers (Watson’s Horse), Indian Army as a Squadron Officer on 20 November 1935, and served during operations on the North-West Frontier and in Waziristan, 1936-37, as Officer Commanding, Railhead Remount Depot, Bannu, where he was Mentioned in Despatches.

Returning to the South Wales Borderers on 15 October 1939, he was promoted Major on 31 January 1941 and was appointed acting Lieutenant-Colonel in April of that year. He commanded the 1st Battalion during the Second World War from February 1943 until 26 June 1945. He retired with the rank of Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel on 12 July 1958, and died in Carmarthen in 1972.
