Provenance: Dix Noonan Webb, March 2008.

William Taylor was born in Malden, Essex, in 1853 and attested for the 33rd (Duke of Wellington’s) Regiment of Foot at Colchester, Essex, on 11 June 1872, having previously served in the East Essex Rifles Militia. He transferred to the 67th (South Hampshire) Regiment of Foot on 30 September 1872, and served with the Regiment in both Burma and India from 1 November of that year to 8 December 1878. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal per Army Order 52 in April 1894, together with a gratuity of £5, and was finally discharged on 20 June 1896, after 24 years and 10 days’ service. His Long Service Medal is his sole entitlement; he did not receive a campaign medal for his services in India.
