Edward IV (1461-1483), Third Cross and Pellets coinage, Drogheda, mm. rose (?), no marks on obv., rev. nothing in centre, no extra pellets, 0.50g/12h (Burns –; Mac Conamhna, BNJ 2017, p.117, no. 20, this coin; S 6369). Nearly very fine £200-300

On 8 September 1478 the Irish parliament legislated to allow Lynche to coin peripatetically as he saw fit. This move was overturned a week later by the King who replaced Lynche with Thomas Galmole, alias Archebold. Concurrently, Henry Lord Grey replaced Gerald Fitzgerald, 8th Earl of Kildare, as Lord Deputy of Ireland, an unpopular move with the old English lords of the Pale who refused to recognise Grey’s authority and established a rival parliament. Grey’s separate parliament confirmed Galmole as mintmaster at Trim on 6 November 1478. The bust punch for Galmole is Burns E and is illustrated by Mac Conamhna as fig. 9, no. 20. Mac Conamhna gives it to the period September 1478-Summer 1479
