Daniel Frank Tydeman was born in Devizes, Wiltshire, on 25 June 1865 and joined the Metropolitan Police at Scotland Yard on 11 May 1885. Posted to ‘A’ (Whitehall) Division, he transferred to ‘F’ (Covent Garden) Division on 26 February 1889. He was promoted Police Sergeant in ‘N’ (Islington) Division on 18 December 1894, transferring to ‘V’ (Wandsworth) Division on 12 March 1900, before being promoted Inspector in ‘M’ (Southwark) Division on 10 January 1903. His final promotion was to Sub-Divisional Inspector in ‘Y’ (Highgate) Division, and he retired on 22 May 1910, after 25 years’ service.
