Pair: Boatswain’s Mate Richard Bailey, Royal Navy, who served with the Naval Brigade at Inkermann and Sebastopol and was severely wounded in June 1855

Crimea 1854-56, 2 clasps, Inkermann, Sebastopol (Rd. Bailey, Boatsn’s Mate.) officially impressed naming; Turkish Crimea 1855, British issue, unnamed as issued, very fine and scarce (2) £300-£400

Approximately 100 officially impressed medals issued to H.M.S. London with these two clasps.

Richard Bailey was born at Sandwich, Kent, on 8 May 1828, and enlisted in H.M.S. Victory at Portsmouth as a Boy 2nd Class on 16 July 1843. He joined H.M.S. London on 27 October 1853, being rated Leading Seaman on 12 March 1854, 2nd Captain of the Maintop on 19 June, and Boatswain’s Mate on 27 February 1855. London was engaged in the war in the Crimea during 1854-56, and supplied men for the Naval Brigade, which served ashore, and saw action at Inkermann on 5 November 1854, and at Sebastopol. Bailey was severely wounded on 7 June 1855, the date of the attack on the Quarries at Sebastopol (London Gazette 19 June 1855). He was discharged on 10 October 1855, probably on account of his wounds.
