1914 Star (10931 Pte J. J. Egan. S. Wales Bord.) very fine £70-£90
John James Egan was born in St. Pancras, London. He served during the Great War with the 1st Battalion, South Wales Borderers in the French theatre of war from 13 August 1914. Egan was killed in action on the Western Front, 21 October 1914. The Battalion War Diary gives the 1st Battalion as being in action near Langemarck for the latter date, and suffering casualties of 3 officers wounded, 13 N.C.O.’s and men killed, 68 wounded and 6 missing.
Private Egan is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
