Joseph Sharples was born in St. Pancras, London, and attested for the 19th Hussars at London, in August 1877. He served with the Regiment in Egypt, August 1882 - September 1895. Sharples advanced to Lance-Corporal, and was discharged, 21 August 1889, having served 12 years with the Colours.
