Arthur Cecil Northey was born in Chichester in 1873, the son (and 1 of 13 children) of Lieutenant-Colonel G. W. Northey of Ashley Manor, Box, Wiltshire. He was originally commissioned into the Leicestershire Regiment, before transferring as Second Lieutenant in to the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) in June 1894.
Northey advanced to Captain, and served with the 2nd Battalion during the Second Boer War. He was slightly wounded in action during the Laing’s Nek operations (6 - 9 June 1900). Northey was appointed Adjutant of the 4th Volunteer Battalion in June 1903, and was appointed as Lieutenant-Colonel to the command of the 9th (Service) Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles), 19 August 1914.
Northey served during the Great War with his Battalion in the French theatre of war from 12 May 1915. He relinquished command of the Battalion when he was invalided, 8 February 1916. Northey subsequently commanded the 4th (Extra Reserve) Battalion in late 1918. He died in Buckinghamshire in 1931.
