There are two men named John Lynch in the muster book:
2513 Private John Lynch (1) was a tailor from Galwat who enlisted on 4 February 1847, and was discharged by Purchase of £20 on 9 May 1853, at Keiskama Hoek, Cape of Good Hope.
2658 Private John Lynch (2), a labourer from Baltinglass, County Wicklow, who enlisted some time after the former man. Both men are listed on the medal roll for the Kaffir War of 1850-53.
