Hubert Crocker was born in Enfield, Middlesex, on 21 July 1921, and was commissioned Lieutenant in the 12th Frontier Force Regiment, Indian Army, on 30 June 1943. He served during the Second World War, and subsequently as a Staff Captain in the Directorate of Organisation, Adjutant General’s Branch, Indian Army Headquarters. He was released from the Army in 1946 with the rank of Honorary Captain, and was finally awarded his Efficiency Medal in 1981 (London Gazette 27 October 1981), one of the very last Imperial medals given to the Indian Army.
