S. E. Travers served with the 1st Battalion, Highland Light Infantry in the Palestine 1945-48 campaign. In 1944, this Battalion had taken part in the capture of the Dutch island of Walcheren and went on to serve throughout the remainder of the North-West Europe campaign in the Second World War.
