John Page was born in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire in 1888. He enlisted in the Buckinghamshire Battalion of the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry in 1910. Page served during the Great War with the 1/1st Battalion in the French theatre of war from 29 March 1915. He subsequently transferred to the 4th Battalion, and served with them in France from October 1916. Page was severely wounded in the head, 3 April 1917, and evacuated to the UK in May of the same year (awarded Territorial Force Efficiency Medal in August 1918).
