Percy Westrupp was born in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, on 29 March 1893 and originally served as a Sergeant of the Lincolnshire Yeomanry, entering the Egyptian Theatre on 21 November 1915. Commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Lincolnshire Regiment on 26 June 1917, he later transferred to the 2/10th Jats, Indian Army. A letter dated 14 January 1920 notes him being a Captain in the 3/7th Gurkha Rifles, having served in the Seistan Levy Corps and from February 1919 as Company commander and Commandant of a segregation Camp. During the Second War, Westrupp served as a Captain in the Royal Fusiliers and Royal Army Service Corps, and was promoted Honorary Major in January 1946.
Sold with file of original items including Great and Second War photographs of Westrupp in uniform and of ‘B’ Squadron, 1st Battalion, Lincolnshire Yeomanry; letters of recommendation and other documents; and flattened card box of issue for the Second War awards, addressed to ‘Major P. Westrupp, 184 Durban Road Grimsby, Lincs.’, with Army Council enclosure.
