Frederick Augustus Cooke was born in London, in 1874. He attested for the Lincolnshire Regiment in January 1892, having previously been employed as a Cellarman. Cooke served with the 2nd Battalion in South Africa, January - October 1900, and was discharged from the Army Reserve, 25 January 1904. He entered Royal Service in 1903, and was employed as a Coal Porter. He was awarded with his ‘Thirty Years’ Bar in February 1933.
