Frederick William Chapman was born in 1878 and joined the Weston-super-Mare Division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade in 1906. He served with the Royal Army Medical Corps during the Great War as a Chief Ward Master, and was advanced to Staff Sergeant in 1915. He was appointed a Serving Brother of the Order of St. John in 1934, and was latterly the Superintendent of the Weston-super-Mare Division. He served during the Second World War in charge of a first-aid post at Filton, and died on 21 January 1949.
