Charles I (1625-1649), Tower mint (under Parliament), Shilling, Gp G, type 4.4 var., mm. sun, bust 3, pellet stops both sides, 5.61g/9h (Sharp G3/2; SCBI Brooker –; N –; S 2801). On a small flan as usual, about fine, very rare £200-£300

Since this type was first published in 1995 eight further specimens have come to light, all on small, rather irregular flans. The style shows some affinities with Gp H coins and they may be an experimental issue for a reduction in flan size, which was introduced during the course of Gp H
