Hajjah Nawab Begum Dame Sultan Jahan, GCSI, GCIE, Begum of Bhopal (1858-1930), succeeded her mother as Nawab Begum in 1901. An educational reformer, she established free and compulsory primary education in Bhopal in 1918 and helped pioneer widespread vaccination and sanitation programmes in the state. She abdicated in 1926
