James Brennan was born in Thurles, Co. Tipperary, in 1875 and attested for the 4th (Militia) Battalion, Royal Irish Regiment on 3 January 1894. He was embodied on 2 May 1900, and served with the 1st Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War. He was discharged on 4 June 1901.
Sold with copied service papers, and medal roll extract, which gives his clasp entitlement as Cape Colony, Belfast, and Wittebergen, and not the Transvaal clasp.
