Four: Marine J. Wandless, Royal Marines

Naval General Service 1915-62, 1 clasp, Palestine 1936-1939 (Po.X.1691 Mne., R.M.); 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; War Medal 1939-45, first with re-pinned suspension, edge bruising and contact marks, nearly very fine; others, extremely fine (4) £180-220

Marine James Wandless, Royal Marines was killed in action on 24 November 1941 when the light cruiser Dunedin was sunk by German submarine U.124 in the South Atlantic. Of the crew, 26 officers and 392 ratings were killed, only four officers and 63 ratings survived the sinking. James Wandless was the son of John and Annie Wandless of Shotton Colliery, Durham. His name is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. Sold with a copied research including a list of those lost on the Dunedin.
