The Lazzaretto Built at Ancona, 1734, a copper medal by O. Hamerani, bust of Pope Clement XII right, reverse two-storey building with courtyard, ships around, harbour of Ancona in background, 72mm (Lincoln 1781; Martinori 179; Ciech. 273; BDM II, 405; cf. Clifford 239). A few carbon specks in obverse field and die flaw in upper right of reverse indicating a slightly later striking, otherwise extremely fine, a detailed medal (£150-250)
The foundation medal for the Lazzaretto, a quarantine centre for those with communicable diseases, built by Luigi Vanvitelli at Ancona in 1734; the medal was commissioned personally by the Pope. The Clifford specimen, an original striking, realised £850
