William Alfred Smith was appointed Lieutenant on 1 September 1863 and promoted to Captain on 2 February 1865. He served in No. 10 Company at Te Ranga. His medal was gazetted in 1873 and his address was given as c/o The Post Office, Melbourne, Australia.
