Richard Webber was born in the Parish of Latford, near Chumleigh, Devon. A Labourer by occupation and originally in the Army reserve, 8 August 1803-24 June 1804, he enlisted for ‘life’ into the 28th Foot at Formoy, Co. Cork, on 16 July 1804, aged 24 years. With the regiment he served in the Peninsular War, being severely wounded in the head at Barrosa, 5 March 1811, and slightly wounded in the right ankle during the crossing of the Nive, when in action with the enemy, 9 December 1813. Webber then served in Captain Richard Kelly’s Company, 28th Foot in the Waterloo Campaign. He was discharged on 29 September 1825 due to ‘Length of service and being worn out’. Clasps confirmed.
