Walter Pole originally entered the French theatre of war as a Lance-Corporal in the Welsh Horse in mid-April 1915, thereby qualifying for the 1914-15 Star. His MIC entry further reveals that he next served as a Corporal in the Labour Corps and was awarded the Silver War Badge. He was discharged in September 1918.
