King’s South Africa 1901-02, 2 clasps (173 Pte. O. Tuffen, Border Regt.) official correction to surname, good very fine £40-50

Osbond Tuffen attested as a Driver in the Eastern Division Royal Artillery on 4 May 1882 and was transferred as a Private in the Border Regiment on 1 August the same year. He served in Malta, 10 November 1897-7 September 1898, where his wife died on 27 February, and then served in the occupation of Crete, 8 September-7 November 1898. After serving a further year in Malta, he was posted to South Africa, 27 September 1899-28 September 1902, for which he was awarded the Queen’s medal with 5 clasps for Tugela Heights, Relief of Ladysmith, Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal and the King’s medal with 2 clasps. He was discharged on the termination of his period of engagement on 3 May 1903 and died at Cambridge in August 1940, aged 80 years. Sold with original ‘Permanent Pass’, dated 29 April 1895 and copied discharge papers.
