Delhi Durbar 1911, silver (9957 Pte. D. Murphy, 1/R. Dub. Fus.) good very fine £50-70

Daniel Murphy was born and lived in Borris, Co. Carlow, and enlisted at Nass. With the 1st Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers he qualified for the Delhi Durbar Medal by serving with ‘Civil Police; Railway Duty’ - one of two officers and 16 other ranks of the regiment to receive the medal. Still serving with the 1st Battalion in the Great War, he was killed in action in Gallipoli on 5 November 1915, aged 23 years. He was buried in the Azmak Cemetery, Sulva, Turkey. He was the son of Daniel and Ellen Murphy of Knocksquire, Borris, Co. Carlow.
