After the 17th Century, the Plague was practically extinct in the United Kingdom, though during 1899-1900 a few cases did appear, brought from overseas to the London Docks area. One exception to this generalization was the outbreak in Glasgow in August 1900. Of the 48 cases of plague diagnosed in this outbreak, 16 proved fatal.
