‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He kept his men in action under exceptionally heavy concentrated fire, and when ordered to leave his position, he went round all the dug-outs to make sure that no wounded were left behind. Whilst he was doing so the N.C.O. with him was badly wounded, and he carried him to the dressing station. Later, when temporarily blinded by a shell which killed his commanding officer, he continued to command the battery with greatest courage and detirmination until he was removed to hospital’.
Charles Edward Platt was promoted a Lieutenant in the Royal Garrison Artillery on 1 June 1916.
