B.E.M. London Gazette 1 August 1941:

During an air raid, Mr. Jones was acting as a fire fighter when a shower of incendiary bombs fell on a Post Office building. Flames quickly spread to a petrol driven cement mixer. Mr. Jones saw that a number of cans of petrol and oil standing by the machine would quickly become involved and without hesitating to consider the danger to himself he dashed several times through the flames and removed the cans to a place of safety. Immediately afterwards the petrol container of the cement mixer exploded. Mr. Jones’ gallant action undoubtedly prevented a serious fire.’
