‘Nordkap in distress in Atlantic 13th March 1891. Mosser put out boat which was stove in. Then put out starboard boat which rescued the crew of the Nordkap at great risk; this boat was also stove in by the Mosser’.
One silver ‘Humanity’ medal; one silver ‘Gallantry’ medal, and five bronze ‘Gallantry’ medals were awarded for this rescue. Alfred Nichols was Bosun of the S.S. Mosser of London.
