D.C.M. London Gazette 4 March 1918:
‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was one of a party of four strecher-bearers during an attack, and when the three others were wounded he worked alone for twenty-six hours, bringing in wounded from shell holes. He also remained at duty after his battalion had been relieved, attending to the wounded. He undoubtedly save many lives.’
Charles Herbert West Roberts was a native of Kentish Town, and served during the Great War with the 2/4th (City of London) Battalion, London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers) on the Western Front.
