Gwilym T. Williams was born in Merthyr, Glamorgan. He served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion, Welsh Regiment in the French theatre of war from 13 August 1914. Lance Corporal Williams was killed in action on the Western Front, 21 August 1916. On the latter date the Battalion were serving as part of the 3rd Brigade, 1st Division on the Somme.
Lance Corporal Williams is buried in the Caterpillar Valley Cemetery, Longueval, Somme.
