The Atlantic Fruit Company was founded in 1905 by Joseph di Giorgio and went through a number of configurations and shareholders until it became a limited company in 1923. The company was sold to the Banana Company of Jamaica, a subsidiary of Standard Fruit & Steamship Co., in 1931.
