David II (1329-1371), Second coinage, Class C, Class C1, Groat, class C1, Edinburgh, mm. cross pattée, third intermediate bust, tressure of six arcs and a small segment, nothing in spandrels, double crosslet stops, nothing after scotorvm, plain a both sides, 4.27g/7h (SCBI 35, 385, same obv. die; cf. B 26, fig. 288; S 5098). About very fine, dark tone £200-£260

Classes A and B are very closely connected, as are Classes C and D. It is likely that the former were produced under James Mulekyn, while the latter were produced under Bonagius of Florence who arrived in Edinburgh from Edward III’s mint at Durham c. 1364.
