James Webb was born in the Parish of Hampnell, Norfolk, and attested for the 43rd Light Infantry at Yarmouth on 19 August 1811, aged 22 years. He served in the ‘Peninsula and France from July 1812 to June 1814 - New Orleans - Army of Occupation from June 1815 to October 1818 - Portugal from Jany. 1827 to March 1828 - Gibraltar seven years.’ He was dicharged on 6 June 1832 and intended to reside in Hampnell.
