Gaming Counters from the Colin Narbeth Collection

Colin Narbeth

Colin Narbeth (1929–2020) founded the International Bank Note Society in 1961, and was given life membership No 1.

Colin was a passionate collector from a young age, his interests including stamps, coins and medals, but banknotes always remained the main focus of his attention.

After working as a junior reporter, he signed up for the Royal Navy for seven years. In the late 1960s he helped to launch Stamp Weekly, and then became a director of Stanley Gibbons International,
developing the banknote department. In 1981, together with his son Simon, he started Colin Narbeth & Son Ltd, dealing in paper money, and which Simon continues to run today.

Colin developed a fascination with dice and gaming pieces, and this collection spans everything from the Roman period up to the modern era. His collection of casino dice, which numbers many hundreds of items, is available for purchase from us by private treaty to successful bidders in this section of the auction
