Provenance: First bt in Leeds September 1993; second bt S.H. Monks June 2012.

First sold with much background information, which makes it clear that Edwin Learoyd, of Ellerslie, Huddersfield, became an acting foundation member of what was known as the Huddersfield Rifle Club in 1859. In July 1861 he underwent a course of musketry instruction at Hythe and was awarded an inscribed silver tankard, along with the medal in this lot. Subsequently Learoyd did not accept a commission in the corps and he is believed to have left it shortly afterwards
