Frederick William Evans was born in Ilam, Staffordshire. An engineer by occupation, he entered the R.N.A.S. as a Petty Officer Mechanic on 16 September 1914. Based on Pembroke III and President II, he served at Mudros with No.3 Squadron, Crystal Palace and London. He later served with the R.A.F. Sold with copied service papers and m.i.c.
