Egypt, Farouk, Proof set, 1356h/1937, comprising 20, 10, 5 and 2 Piastres, first three security edges, last edge grained, 12h (KM. 365-8; cf. Spink Australia 25, 1059) [4]. Virtually as struck, obverses lightly toned and the 10 Piastres with some additional spotting, reverses uniformly brilliant, extremely rare £5,000-7,000

Provenance: Noble Numismatics Auction 91 (Melbourne), 21-3 July 2009, lot 2132.

Slabbed in NGC holders, graded PF 66, PF 62, PF 65 and PF 66 respectively. Farouk visited England in mid-1937 and sat to two artists for a coinage portrait; the work by Percy Metcalfe was chosen. The reverse designs were to sketches supplied by the Ministry of Finance, Cairo
