The John Geraghty Collection

John Geraghty

John Geraghty was born in Newbridge, Co. Kildare in 1948 and died in Galway 2013. After emigrating to Australia as a “10 pound tourist” John found himself back in Ireland from 1976-1984 before returning to Brisbane, Australia with his wife Patricia and their four Children. John had a deep love of all things Irish and was a prominent member of the Irish community in Brisbane. For over 30 years John had a passion for collecting banknotes, particularly Irish Banknotes. He would travel great distances and spend countless hours trawling through local fairs, auctions and shows seeking out notes that may have been worthy to add to his collection. Many a night would be spent listening to Paddy Reilly while referencing Paper Money of Ireland or “The Bible” as he would call it and cataloguing his collection. Collecting Irish banknotes of significance was so much more than a hobby for John, it was indeed a true passion. Guided through long phone calls across the globe, by his good friend Michael O’Grady, John was able to build a collection of which he was exceptionally proud.

In Memory of our father, Sean, Mary-Anne, Keira and Deidre.
